Add a dimension to your printing with our new Puff transfers.  Puff transfers are available in white or black puff, but these colors can be combined with our regular screen printed inks to really make your design stand out. The Puff screen printed transfers work best on bold designs since the enlarging of the ink closes up detailed designs. Puff also works best on fashion items rather than athletic wear that is wash and worn weekly.  Use Puff with our Easy Prints® tshirt design ideas or send us your artwork.

Decorating Thin Fabrics with Plastisol Transfers

Thinner fabrics have made their way into the decorating industry with descriptions like sheer, lightweight, tissue tees and burn-out. If you are unfamiliar with the term “burn-out” we’ll take a second to explain. The t shirts with the description “burn-out” occurs with cotton/polyester fabrics that are treated with a chemical that actually burns one of the fibers. It leaves the other fabric fibers opaque. This creates a vintage/worn look that is very popular these days.

These types of thin fabrics can be decorated with screen printed transfers just like everyday t shirts can. Hot Split plastisol transfers will provide the softest hand that works great with softer, thin fabrics. All other ink formulas will also apply to these fabrics.

With very thin t shirts however, it is important to separate the front and backside of the shirt or you may run into the two sides sticking together. The pressure we apply to the transfer and garment with our heat press may push the ink through the thin fabric to the other side. There are two ways that this can be prevented:

 1)      “Dress” the bottom platen. Split open the front and back of the shirt at the bottom and the bottom platen goes in between. Just like you would dress a child. Check out our blog entry about “Dressing/Threading a Garment“.

2)      Use a Teflon sheet or Kraft paper to place in between the front and back of the shirt. These sheets prevent any ink from sticking to them.

As always, it is important to test the materials you are using to make sure you understand how the materials will behave during application.

Ink Formula Focus: Glitter Screen Printed Transfers

QEV-60 in Silver Glitter Ink

The use of glittery, sparkling graphics on apparel is a growing trend for girls and women who want to add a little “wow” to their custom designs.  Glitter designs can be applied to apparel using a number of different techniques but none that has the quality and durability like screen printed transfers. Like standard screen printing, Transfer Express’ Glitter transfers are printed using plastisol ink but with added sparkle. You can actually see the glitter in the ink!

Unlike the other standard plastisol transfers created, Glitter transfers are a “cold peel transfer”, meaning after it is applied with a professional heat press the transfer paper is not peeled away until after it has completely cooled. So after each transfer is heat applied to the garment, set it to the side and go on to apply the next transfer. Once they have all cooled, peel away!

 Glitter Transfers:

Can be applied to light and dark garments

Heat print to any cotton, polyester or cotton/poly blend fabrics

Look best with bold designs. Not recommended with detailed artwork.

Are available in 5 colors; red, blue, green, gold and silver

Can include any of the 5 glitter colors in the design.

Request a sample of these Glitter transfers to show your customers all of their printing options. They are perfect for groups such as cheerleaders, gymnasts, sororities, camps and even fashion designs.

With the use of custom transfer gang sheets, add on sales can be very profitable and easy to do.  Gang sheets are custom transfers printed with multiple art images on one sheet and then cut apart for use.  This customer’s team ordered uniforms with an Easy Prints® script tail layout  (QAL-42) on the front, a name and number on the back and the team mascot, a stallion (X2H-1) on the sleeve.  They ordered a color change for printing on both their home and away uniforms.  The customer then showed them a bat bag that could be ordered and offered to print it with the mascot and a number.  They were able to use the same mascot transfer that had been used on the sleeve so this print cost them nothing.  They then ordered 2” numbers using Express Names™ for just $3!  The bag was purchased for $17 and printed with a logo and number for just $3.  They sold the custom printed bags for $35 making an extra $15 on each team member!

Stock Transfers vs. Custom Transfers

Transfer Express is primarily a custom transfer producer although we do carry a few stock transfers.  So what is the difference?

Stock flag transfers

Stock flag transfers

Stock transfers must be ordered just as they are—at the size, colors and with the text (if any).  They are typically printed in a large quantity and then can be ordered in smaller quantities.  Transfer Express carries a few stock transfers such as the American Flag, the Canadian Flag and the Cancer Ribbons.  During the holidays we will also stock a limited line, and our numbers are stock transfers.  Because this type of transfer, is “in stock” and ready to go, you can order them as late as 3:00 EST and they will ship the same day.

With custom transfers you can order what you want.  Transfer Express offers two types of custom transfers.

The first are Easy Prints®.  These are custom transfers created from our Idea Book™ layouts.  We give you the idea and you tell us what you would like it to say, the clip art, the text, the size and the colors.  Transfer Express is the originator of this type of custom transfer and has perfected it, so that one color Easy Prints®, created custom, can ship the same day when ordered by 11 AM Eastern.

The second type of custom transfer is from provided artwork.  You send us the art, and we print it.  Art can be sent online, and we will give you a call to finalize the details once received.

Art Approvals Now High Tech

Transfer Express previously used “faxing” as the delivery method for “Artwork Approval” and “Art Proofs”.  As of  April 6th, we will now be using images and forms online to view and approve your orders requiring “Art Approval” and for ”Art Proofs”.  Some of the benefits of this new method are quicker notification, easier access and artwork in color. So now you don’t have to be at the office waiting by the fax machine to get your visual for your artwork.  If your order requires art approval, you will receive an  “Art Approval Notification”  email. Click on the link in that email to view the art on your desktop or laptop computer with your web browser and send approval or changes as needed from that page.

Also during this upgrade we have improved the legibility of the order details page for all transfer and number orders. These order details are avialable for when you click on the Order ID links in your Order and Shipment confirmation and when you click on your Order History in “Your Past Orders’.  Please review all your order confirmations for accuracy with our new improved view of the order details.

Custom Earth Day Transfers

April 22nd marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! Many groups, schools and organizations will be gathering to help clean up our Earth and spread the word about how important it is to keep our planet clean and healthy. Custom Earth Day t-shirts are worn by many of the groups and sold to the public to raise money to help their efforts. Since this year is an anniversary year many people will be gathering at parks, environmental fairs and rallies which is a perfect time to gain more profits or help raise money to give back to the environment.

Start with a few Easy Prints® designs and purchase organic cotton t-shirts to heat print them to with your professional heat press. Below are a few ideas to get your started. Keep in mind, during these events there are many volunteers and staff helping out. It is very easy to add a line of text or names to the back of your Earth Day t shirts with the word “VOLUNTEER” or “STAFF”.

Do your customers want to give away reusable bags for repeated trips to the grocery store? Polypropylene bags are popular for reducing the number of plastic bags in our landfills but they are very difficult to heat print on since they melt under high temperatures. Elasti Prints® screen printed transfers apply at a low temperature and are perfect for this type of application!

The spring season is the start of many races including marathons, half marathons, 5k races, triathlons, etc. Especially in larger cities there are many races to profit off of since there are hundreds of runners and their supporters. Since the exact name of major races may be trademarked, using the city name in a running related Easy Prints® layout is legal. Below are some examples of design ideas for customer screen printed transfers. You don’t even have to be a designer to create one-of-a-kind designs in your area.

Each runner brings family and friends to support them during the race. Personalization is extremely popular on t shirts for those who are there to cheer on their runner. Add a team name to the back of the shirt for added profits! Choose Peel n’ Press letters for on the spot personalization. Just peel the letters and place them on the shirt.  In just 4 seconds of application time you can have a personalized shirt ready for your customers in just minutes!
