Printing Home and Away Uniforms – A Color Change Makes Them Easy

Many teams, especially travel teams, have two sets of jerseys, a home and away version. Printing these uniforms are very cost efficient with the use of a color change. A color change is a process where part way through the screen printing process; we stop and change the ink color in the screen. By doing this we are able to pass on the cost savings of the larger run with a small fee added to the cost for the screen color change.

For example, for a team with 18 players ordering a home and away uniform, you get the price break of 36.

An inexpensive way to print home and away jerseys is to use a color change.

To place your order by phone, just let the customer service rep know how many of each color is needed, and what color is to be changed. If you are ordering online, place your first color version as normal, then in notes add how many of the different color is needed.

Ordering Sponsor Names for Baseball Leagues

Your local baseball league just called and asked you to quote their league order. You are excited for the opportunity and really want to win the bid, but where do you start? It seems easy; they just want t-shirts with a sponsor name on the front and a number on the back.

So where do you start?
1.   Find out if they would like a specific height for the text needed.
2.   Find out how many teams and what color ink is needed for each team.
3.   Find out how many players on each team.

Now you organize!
First, divide the teams by ink color. Let’s say that 8 teams get white ink and 8 teams get black ink. Your customer told you they want the sponsor names 1.5” tall. We have created sponsor layouts that make filling these orders easy and very cost effective. Since they have chosen 1.5” tall as the letter height, you will want to use QSP-2 for ordering. You can see that there are 8 lines that fit on one order. So, start filling the slots with your sponsor names needing white ink.

Line 1 MARY’S ICE CREAM
Line 2 JONES LEGAL SERVICE
Line 3 MARIO’S PIZZA
Line 4 JOHNSON DELI
Line 5 ABC SPORTING GOODS
Line 6 MEDIC DRUG STORE
Line 7 HENRY’S BURGERS
Line 8 SUE’S CUPCAKES

Sponsor Name on Shirt

Sponsor layouts are a great way to easily organize a league order.

How many should you order?
Three of the teams have 12 players and the other five have 15, so you will be ordering 15 sheets of the order you created above. So, your order would be for 15 sheets @ $3.58/sheet=$53.70 to put sponsor names on 8 teams, 111 players. That is just .48 per player! And your order ships the same day when ordered by 11 am EST so not only can you give your league a great price but also great service.

Number Ordering
The number order is just as easy. Use our online number calculator. Enter 3 teams with number 1-12 and 5 teams 1-15. Using a 6” number, the cost is just .25 per digit so with a sponsor on the front and a number on the back, your printing cost is just 73 cents!

Custom Transfers with Bling – Metallic, Glitter or Foil?

Is your customer looking to brighten the look of their printed apparel? If so, there are three different custom transfer options available.

The most durable and least expensive is our Goof Proof® in metallic silver ink. Plastisol, screen printed metallic ink transfers do have flecks of metal for some sparkle, but it is the most subtle “bling” of the three. It is the best choice for athletic or school items that need to be durable for constant wear.

The second option is glitter. This has a lot of shine and is probably preferred by females. It is still very durable since it is a screen printed ink. Cheer and dance teams seem to love the glitter as it meets both needs – it adds sparkle and is still durable.

The third option is foil. This is actually a 2 step process as you need both a transfer and the foil product to put over it. This is the look desirable for fashion items and is great because you can choose to foil just a portion of the print giving a 2 texture look at just a 1 color price. However, this is the least durable of the three but by using it with the metallic silver ink, in time if the foil does flake off, you still have a very durable metallic silver print on the shirt.

Tips for Screen Printing Custom Artwork: Tip 5 – Color Placement

When creating custom artwork for screen printed transfers, color placement is important. The screen printing process uses spot colors. You can use spot colors when creating art, but it is not required. However, you should use consistent colors in your file.

Here are some guidelines for color placement in your custom art:

  • It doesn’t matter if you use a spot color, a CMYK value, or an RGB value as long as it is the same throughout. So if you use CMYK values, use CMYK throughout your whole file.
  • Use the same color to represent each color in your design. For example, if you have a blue area, use the same blue for all those blue areas.
  • If it helps to add a background color to match the apparel color, go ahead and try that. This helps if you are using a white ink as one of your colors and want to distinguish the ink from the background or show-thru areas.
Color placement example for custom artwork

All CMYK colors were used in this artwork with a gold background used for apparel representation only.

Colors appear differently on different computer monitors. If you would like a more accurate idea of how your colors will look when printed, use one of our Color Selectors that are part of our marketing kit or available separately.

A good spot color palette to use in Adobe Illustrator® and CorelDraw®  is the “Pantone® solid coated” palette that comes with the software.

A customer orders a custom printed shirt but they want the ink color to match an outfit they have—so what do you do?
Answer: No Problem! Our screen printed transfers ink colors can be mixed to match any color you desire.

We stock 63 ink colors (plastisol). But if you don’t see what you need, we can always do a color match to the desired color for a small color match fee. You can either provide us a Pantone® color (Pantone® is a standardized system for colors, often called PMS or Pantone Matching System) or send us an item that you want matched.

Apparel Printing Color Selector

Use Transfer Express' Easy Prints® Color Selector to choose ink colors for screen printed transfers.

If you want to see what colors we stock, we offer an approximated online color chart (there is some variance due to the variance in colors on computer monitors), a list of the Pantone corresponding numbers that can be used if you own a Pantone chart, or a color selector specific to Transfer Express can be ordered.

Transfer Extreme Layout USA-10 America is Great

We’re a patriotic bunch, here at STAHLS’ Transfer Express.  Flags are waving, banners are soaring, and Lenny Schiavone just cooked a whole bunch of hot dogs for us to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend!

Meanwhile, we’re still celebrating the launch of our latest product offering, Transfer Extreme, and its introductory collection of patriotic screen-printed transfers.  Since it hit the wires on Wednesday, May 25th, each of our 10 Americana stock designs has been flying off the shelves.  (Looks like we’ll have to keep printing!)

Transfer Extreme USA-1

Transfer Extreme is really special to us.  We enlisted the help of industry-renowned graphics expert, Dane Clement, to create trendy, edgy designs that truly display American Pride.  These were screen-printed with plastisol inks using our new, innovative, simulated 4-color process printing method.  This provides beautiful graphics, intricate designs, and full, vibrant colors.  The image quality is comparable to direct screen-printing, digital printing, or litho.  However, the finished product gives you a very soft hand (not plastic-y like those other guys), and it applies in only 4 seconds!  Plus, it’s great for both light and dark fabrics; for cotton, polyester, and cotton/polyester material.

Dane created designs that are ideal for all ages, but will especially appeal to the alternative looks that teens and young adults love.  Just in time for Memorial Day, they’re perfect for summertime fashion and your customers’ 4th of July Independence Day celebrations.

Please check out the designs when you have a moment, if you haven’t already.  We’d love to hear your feedback about them at info@transferexpress.com.  Tell us how you like and how you’re using them, or if you have any special stories such as from a U.S. Veteran.  Also, please share with us what designs you’d like to see us produce for you in the future!

In the meantime, I hope your family, like mine, will be struttin’ their stuff this Memorial Day Weekend wearing Transfer Extreme designs!
