Custom Transfer Cost Saving Tip – Using Gang Sheets

A customer recently emailed us wanting a quote for 3 different prints for baby onsies all using the same plastisol ink color. They needed 60 of each and wanted to know the best way to order. The answer – gang sheets!

It took a few emails back and forth for them to understand that even though they had 3 different designs, you save a ton of money by doing just one order with all three images on the same sheet.

The customer thought they could fit 6 on a sheet and was going to do 3 orders of 10 each. By doing this, it would have cost 10 x $5.09 = $50.90 x 3 = $152.70.

Instead, we suggested they put all three designs on one gang sheet (to create a gang sheet, all images must fit within an 11.25” x 14” area, and use the same ink color). We were actually able to fit 9 on a sheet, 3 of each design and by doing just one order of 20 sheets, they did get 60 of each image for $60.20 (20 sheets x $3.01/sheet)—a cost savings of $92.50. The 180 baby shirts were custom printed using screen printed transfers for just 33¢ each!

Custom Transfers with Bling – Metallic, Glitter or Foil?

Is your customer looking to brighten the look of their printed apparel? If so, there are three different custom transfer options available.

The most durable and least expensive is our Goof Proof® in metallic silver ink. Plastisol, screen printed metallic ink transfers do have flecks of metal for some sparkle, but it is the most subtle “bling” of the three. It is the best choice for athletic or school items that need to be durable for constant wear.

The second option is glitter. This has a lot of shine and is probably preferred by females. It is still very durable since it is a screen printed ink. Cheer and dance teams seem to love the glitter as it meets both needs – it adds sparkle and is still durable.

The third option is foil. This is actually a 2 step process as you need both a transfer and the foil product to put over it. This is the look desirable for fashion items and is great because you can choose to foil just a portion of the print giving a 2 texture look at just a 1 color price. However, this is the least durable of the three but by using it with the metallic silver ink, in time if the foil does flake off, you still have a very durable metallic silver print on the shirt.

We Can Print Custom Transfers in Any Color!

A customer orders a custom printed shirt but they want the ink color to match an outfit they have—so what do you do?
Answer: No Problem! Our screen printed transfers ink colors can be mixed to match any color you desire.

We stock 63 ink colors (plastisol). But if you don’t see what you need, we can always do a color match to the desired color for a small color match fee. You can either provide us a Pantone® color (Pantone® is a standardized system for colors, often called PMS or Pantone Matching System) or send us an item that you want matched.

Use Transfer Express' Easy Prints® Color Selector to choose ink colors for screen printed transfers.

If you want to see what colors we stock, we offer an approximated online color chart (there is some variance due to the variance in colors on computer monitors), a list of the Pantone corresponding numbers that can be used if you own a Pantone chart, or a color selector specific to Transfer Express can be ordered.

Resizing Customers’ Artwork for Transfers

Many of our dealers have customers that come in with artwork from a business card or some sort of flyer and want the logo turned into a t-shirt. This can be confusing when the artwork is a different size than needed on the t shirt. How do you go about doing this? Transfer Express offers many tools to our dealers online. The Image Resizer tool and the Gang Sheet Calculator tool are two that are offered that will help you in this scenario.

For an example, Betty’s Cleaning Service brings you her business card with her logo on it. She wants the design as a heart size on t-shirts made from her logo and wants to know how much they will be. To give her pricing, you will have to measure her logo on the business card and determine the dimensions of that logo at a larger heart size. Then you will need to determine how many of this image will fit on a transfer gang sheet in order to price the transfers and eventually the total cost of her order.

So let’s get started. First, measure her logo to find out the current dimensions. The more precise you can measure the better. You have determined that her logo is 1.5” wide x 1.625” tall.

Measure the art as precisely as you can.

Next, go online to the Transfer Express website and log in with your Dealer ID and password. Click on the ‘Image Resizer’ in the Tools area of the left navigation bar.

Type in the 2 dimensions you calculated for the fields in the ‘Size of the art you have’ portion of the calculator. Since Betty wants her logo to be heart size, use 4.5” for the larger of the 2 dimensions (in this case, the 1.625”) for the ‘Size to be printed’ portion of the calculator.

After you have typed in the 3 numbers, click the ‘Calculate/Resize’ button to get the other dimension needed. Because of the size of this particular image, it will be able to be ganged on a transfer sheet. Click the ‘Gang Sheet’ button to see how many will fit per sheet. It shows you that at heart size, 6 of this image will fit on one sheet.

Betty determines that she will need 85 shirts total. With 6 images per sheet, you will need 15 gang sheets. From there you can finish out the pricing by checking the price of the sheets based on the number of colors she wants and then adding in the price of your materials, time, etc.

It add color and shine to your apparel offerings. Foiling is a two step process; you apply the heat transfer with your heat press and then position the foil sheet over the printed transfer. Sold in 12″x200′ rolls, foil comes in a variety of colors including blue, copper, gold, green, pink, purple, red, silver and effects such as gold splatter, silver splatter, rainbow, silver oil spill and pink zebra.

How to Order Small Screen Printed Transfer Numbers

Do you need a small number to place in a clip art such as a baseball, one to put on a sleeve or even to place on a cap? We have numbers available in sizes as small as 1”. To order, use Express Names™ and enter numerals instead of letters. Enter a row of digits or the specific digits you need. If ordering 1” numbers you can fit 8 in a row, at the 2” size you can fit 12 digits, at the 2.5” size you can fit 10 digits and at the 3” size you can fit 8 digits. These numbers are low cost, only $1.55/row and easy to apply with your heat press in just 4 seconds!
