Ink Formula Focus: Glitter Screen Printed Transfers

The use of glittery, sparkling graphics on apparel is a growing trend for girls and women who want to add a little “wow” to their custom designs. Glitter designs can be applied to apparel using a number of different techniques but none that has the quality and durability like screen printed transfers. Like standard screen printing, Transfer Express’ Glitter transfers are printed using plastisol ink but with added sparkle. You can actually see the glitter in the ink!
Unlike the other standard plastisol transfers created, Glitter transfers are a “cold peel transfer”, meaning after it is applied with a professional heat press the transfer paper is not peeled away until after it has completely cooled. So after each transfer is heat applied to the garment, set it to the side and go on to apply the next transfer. Once they have all cooled, peel away!

Rhinestones are hot, but finding someone to do custom printed rhinestone transfers is difficult, and the cost is high. For your budget-minded customer, we offer an alternative, “Faux Rhinestone”. Faux Rhinestone is not actual rhinestones, but rather a screen printed transfer created with a dot pattern and glitter ink to give the effect of rhinestone. The month of June is National Safety Month! There are a lot of precautions your customers can take to make their environment safe for themselves and their groups they are ordering for. However, your customers in low-light conditions such as jogging at night, camping, or working in the dark, need clothing with reflective designs to help keep them safe.

Reflective Transfers
Are you looking for screen printed transfers with increased visibility? Then our silver reflective transfers are for you. Reflective transfers reflect light when hit with a direct light source. They are great for teams playing under the lights, joggers and police/fire workers. During normal light the print is a metallic silver color, but with direct light it will appear a brilliant silver white.
Silver reflective transfers can be applied to cotton, polyester and cotton/polyester blends in just 20 second using your heat press. You can select an Easy Prints® layout or send us your artwork. This type of print works best with bold designs and lettering to get the most effect from its reflectivity.

Applying transfers to mouse pads or coasters is one way to make extra profit.
One of our customers showed us a couple of heat print additions they have recently done for their local school. The first were coasters they made as favors for a mom/son dance. They ordered inexpensive coasters and used our digital Photo Prints to heat print. The coasters were only .24/each and they were able to fit 20 prints on a Photo Print sheet keeping the cost of the print to under .25. The dance was on a local cruise ship so they used our Easy Prints™ layout QRT-12 and their archived custom clip art. This is a great idea for both prom and wedding favors.
The second idea used some leftover prints from their shirt order. This time a screen printed transfer was applied to a mouse pad and given as gifts at a fund raiser. The Easy Prints™ layout used was QBA-170 and again with their saved custom clip art.

Have you tried glitter screen printed transfers? The glitter comes in red, blue, green, silver and gold and and works well on both light and dark color shirts. They are very durable and apply in just seconds. You can use the Easy Prints® layouts to create your custom transfer or send us artwork. The colors can be combined for multi-color glitter too. To get the optimal amount of sparkle be sure to choose bold letters and thicker lines so that there is more of the glitter ink. Glitter is a great way to add ”bling” to your spring orders!

Butt Prints Custom Transfers

Printing on the rear side of pant or shorts with plastisol transfers, or as some call it “butt prints” is very popular and easy to do. Any design that has a natural separation in the print will work. You just want to avoid applying your custom transfer on the seam. For example, you could order an arch of the word BASEBALL and apply BASE to one side and then BALL to the other. The grid lines on the paper Stahls’ Transfer Express prints on will allow for easy alignment. Some layouts that work well for Butt Prints are QAL-3, QAL-6, QAL-1, QAL-30, QAL-21, QAL-27, QAL-29. Just avoid script lettering since this is connected.
Sizing your print depends on the size of the garments you are heat printing on. We suggest measuring the printable area of the garment.

With our nation’s focus on green, one of the most popular ad specialty items are eco-friendly grocery totes. But how do you print these polypropylene bags? Our Elasti Prints™ , screen printed transfers are just the solution. Because Elasti Prints™ are a low heat application, they apply easily and do not damage the bags. Just be sure to stay away from the seams and you are ready to print. If the grocery totes are cotton, or a cotton blend, any of our transfer products can be applied. Only the Polypropyylene require the low heat Elasti Prints™.
Custom Transfers for Performance Apparel

Sold under brand names such as Under Armour®, Nike®, Adidas®, Teamwork® and Augusta®, or under its attributes dry fit and moisture wicking, we have the product to help you outfit your team.
Performance wear is typically 100% polyester fabric making it perfect for all types of transfer application. Basically there are two types of performance wear—loose fit, that fits like a t-shirt, and compression, or tight fit that stretches tightly against the skin. All of the Transfer Express® products can be used to decorate loose fit. The product just needs to be able to withstand a temperature of 340° F or 365° F depending on the product for perfect application.
For tight fit or compression performance wear you will need a print that will stretch. Both our new screen printed Elasti Prints™ and our full color Digi Prints™ will stretch with the fabric. Elasti Prints™ is recommended when printing in a single color or spot multi-color . Digi Prints™ can be used for all types of printing—single color, multi color and full color. In addition, both product have low application temps—305° F for Digi Prints™ and 275° F for Elasti Prints™.
