Unique Transfer Placement on a Hoodie

With winter peeking it’s head into our lives, it’s time the hooded sweatshirts are pulled out of storage and new ones bought. I must admit, I’m a hoodie hoarder. I have bins full of them because I enjoy buying new sweatshirts with unique designs. We, as decorators, must come up with new and unique ways to attract our customers with something outside of the box. Have you thought of showing your customers different placement options for their graphics or something different to add to their same ol’ order that they do every year? Here are a few options that can create ideas and conversation between you and your customer during their next hooded sweatshirt purchase.

We’ll start with the standard full front design. We’ve all seen this one before. If you haven’t heat printed on hoodies before, it’s great idea to measure the print area to make sure you order a design that will not overlap the pocket. It’s a common mistake, especially with smaller hoodies.

The sleeve is an area that is common with prints. We print small logos on short sleeve t-shirts or long designs on long sleeve shirts. But on a hoodie, try a small logo or mascot on the end of the sleeve. This is not seen often however it’s a placement that attracts attention. To apply this design, we used a Print Perfect Pad in the sleeve to raise the print area above the seams of the cuff. You could also use a 6×6 or Cap Hotronix heat press for quick application.

This placement on the hood itself is gaining in popularity. Your customer has many options when decorating on the hood. They can choose text big or small, right-reading when the hood is up or down, or a design on just on one side of the hood. To print on the hood, we used a Hotronix® heat press with a smaller 8″x10″ interchangeable lower platen.

The hoodie pocket is another area that doesnt’ get a lot of attention with graphics. Use a simple layout or a decorative design to heat apply to the pocket.

And finally, a unique design element can be applied to the side of the hoodie for a wrap-around effect. Thread the sweatshirt on the platen and and spin it on it’s side. This is an easy area to apply to that is often overlooked.

This is some really good information about placing logos on a hoodie. I liked that you talked about how it would be smart to really measure the hoodie. It might be smart to have a professional help with getting the logo on the hoodie.

Hi Penelope,
Thank you! It definitely helps to know the size of your print area before ordering the transfers. Otherwise, our transfers are super easy to use. Goof Proof screen printed transfers apply in just 4 seconds with a heat press.
