Heat Printing vs. Screen Printing (Set up Shop)
After returning from the SGIA Show in Atlanta November 4-6, we had the opportunity to speak with many attendees that came to the show with the intention of getting into screen printing. But after being introduced to heat printing at the Transfer Express booth, buyers quickly realized the advantages of starting a heat printing business over that of screen printing.
For starters, setting up a screen print shop requires a much larger production space than heat printing and requires multiple pieces of equipment including screen exposure unit, washout booth, screen print press, flash cure unit, and a conveyor textile dryer that requires 220 volt electrical service.
With screen printing, it’s also necessary to purchase thousands of dollars in supplies including screens, squeegees, inks, emulsions, cleaners, ink additives, spray adhesives and more. The cost to set up a small screen print shop can range from $15,000 to $20,000 and for a mid sized shop the cost is approximately $20,000 to $35,000!
